Study Groups

Bible Discussion Group

Study: Studies from the Gospels and from Old Testament Prophecies of the coming of Messiah that focus on who Jesus is, what He did, what He taught, and why we should place our faith in Him.

Participants do not have to read aloud or pray aloud unless they volunteer to do so.  They may participation in the discussion at their own level of comfort.

This group uses an edition of the New International Version New Testament. It is assumed that some participants may not be familiar with looking up Bible verses, and so the leader provides page numbers and instructions where to look for the scripture passage on the page.

When: 6:45 p.m. on Wednesdays

Minister Development

Study: Messages from the rest of the New Testament that focus on what it means to be a Christian and on what it means to be a church. While these messages are the "sermons" during Sunday Morning Worship, the informal atmosphere allows for congregational comments and questions.

Participants are invited to read the scripture in unison and, after having been given some prayer prompts, they are asked to pray just a sentence or two with a neighbor ("Thank you, Lord Jesus" is acceptable.)

This group uses an edition of the New International Version New Testament. It is assumed that some participants may not be familiar with looking up Bible verses, and so the leader provides page numbers and instructions where to look for the scripture passage on the page.

When: 11:00 a.m. on Sundays

Prayer-Evangelism Group

Study: Part of the weekly prayer list is a reading from the early part of the Old Testament, with suggestions from the passage on prayers of praise and thanksgiving, confession of sin, and prayers for one's self.

Participants may be called upon to read the scripture aloud (with help on the difficult names). They are invited to pray brief prayers of just a few sentences, with the option of having more than one turn to pray if desired. Participants use their own Bibles from home. Any participant without a personal Bible is given one.

When: 10:00 a.m. on Sundays

The Gathering of the Ministers

Study: Technically, this is not a study group. It is an opportunity for the ministers (members) of The Gathering to share with one another how they sense God leading the congregation.

Each Gathering of the Ministers concludes with the opportunity for participants to share what God has been doing in and through their lives in recent weeks. Then all of the ministers contribute a prayer of just one sentence to the closing group prayer time.

When: 9:00 a.m. on Sundays tri-weekly (check schedule)
